Hope for Corals in Crisis is a Telly Gold Winner under the General -Not for Profit category, and a People’s Telly Silver Winner under the General – Non-Broadcast category.  Give Reefs a Chance won a People’s Telly Gold in the General – Online Commercial category, and a Telly Silver Winner in the General – Online Commercials category.

A collaborative team from WHOI, led by Director and Producer Craig LaPlante, wrote, and produced the videos as part of WHOI’s efforts to shed light on new strategies and solutions for the coral reef crisis.  Working with the Coral Reef Solutions Team, a comprehensive campaign highlighting the work of WHOI scientists and engineers to confront the coral crisis launched last year.

According to Craig LaPlante, WHOI’s Director of Digital Media, “It is wonderful to be recognized for our work alongside peers at Disney, National Geographic Society and PBS. Our team is always striving to find unique and creative ways to share WHOI’s important research.  And, because our audience uses digital platforms to remain educated and informed our use of digital storytelling remains integral to our overall engagement strategy.”

“The caliber of the work this season coming from creators such as Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution truly has reflected the theme of breaking out and standing out,” said Telly’s Executive Director Sabrina Dridje.

“This season’s awards recognized work that “breaks through the static,” and our winners did just that, rising above almost 13,000 entries from five continents and 50 countries.”
